yeh i can imagine, i had a right time convincing them it was a gd idea to start a web design company but all this is kinda off track...

if you can hit yes on the poll, if you can't then hit no.

we'll see in a day or two how it goes but in the mean time lets av a look around for some good site designs and post them here. Then we can choose bits that we like and start making a landing page for whatever we choose Smile

true. i always thought we should kinda split the branchs into seperate HTML pages. Not 100% sure if thats what Geromix was meaning when he said he was putting in HTML pages but.

on a side note about the other site. would that Express Your Personallity be there? Or is it the banner for the temp?

We could always make another quick forum with forumation to write up code and test it before putting it here. We had one to do that before but not sure if its still about.

PostSubject: Re: Forum Revamp Ideas Thread   Forum Revamp Ideas Thread - Page 4 EmptySun Apr 12, 2009 11:21 pm

I haven't understood what this Dolphin thing is,pls explain to me how this fit in here.

>Chat System-
The chat system i have in my mind has-Sound Alert system(You can turn it off if its annoying),so if 2 guys are online and are browsing the site,one of them chats the other gets an alarm.

If bulbster's chat system has sound alerts,and looks good that is it fits in to the theme,pops-out then we will use bulbster's system.

XFire should be used,but no point in making it mandatory,i had it earlier didn't like it at all.

It could be used as a supplementary system and improve communication.

If i am not wrong then Ghosty has already added it as a Profile Field.

@Ghost-the banner u put on Portal for XFire is a bit too big,it is stretching the Portal's central column and therefore the shoutbox doesn't fit it in.Make it smaller.

There would be no "split" of the site for different gaming branches,that won't work and the community won't be able to freely mix with each other.

The HTML pages planned are simple ones with info-
>AoF(History,description etc)
>Code of Conduct
>Hall of Fame(Will be using images)
>Leaders(ACC + other important ones,a single contact is given)
>AoF Games(Detailed description of games AoF plays,the Portal block which currently has info regarding games is too small,we will continue to use it but the info regarding each game will become smaller and links would be given to this page)

All of them would have good buttons and their links would be put on Portal page.

Besides this if there are other ideas for HTML Pages then pls give.

@techno_kid-
I am not sure of php code,i think the time has come for u to create ur own test forum.As i said earlier this is the best way to know the limits and capabilities of forumotion as u will be a forum founder.
Post the link of the newly created forum to us,so that some guys here can help u out in setting it up as this forum has been set up.

Click this link to make a forumotion forum,usually takes 2-3 mins-
https://www.forumotion.com/

Choose phpbb 2,i don't remember the theme(Anybody remembers it pls tell him).It is important that we get the theme right so that u get the correct CSS.
(Sang if u are reading this pls tell us what the theme name is!)

In addition to this u will be a made forum Admin here as well,later, so as to make things easier etc.

This was the first Test Site of AoF,its themes have been changed unfortunately-
http://aof-temporary.forumotion.com/

We can use this as well.

Our Gfx designer would only be available in May-June and therefore we should try doing other things till then like the major code work etc.

Things like Intro Page are of secondary importance and will only be done if there is more time and if there is a need.

We will see what can be done with RTD,Recent Topics Display and make things easier for people to browse.

@techno_kid-I also need help with this code,its for a Portal Block,Link to Us,u can see it on the Portal but it s not what i want-

Code:
<div align="center"><br><a href="http://aof-association.forumotion.com"><img src="http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/78/aofbuttonnr8.png"></a><br><br><table width=”100%” cellpadding=”2″ cellspacing=”1″ border=”0″ class=”forumline”><tr><td class=”catHead” height=”25″><span class=”genmed”><center><font size="-1"><b>Copy Code below for link to us-</b></font></center></span></td></tr><tr><td class=”row1″ align=”center”><tr><td class=”row1″ align=”center”><center><br><a href=”http://aof-association.forumotion.com/”></a><br><textarea columns=”25″ rows=”7″ style=”border: 0″ onClick=select()<<font color="black"><a href=”http://aof-association.forumotion.com/”><img src="http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/78/aofbuttonnr8.png"></a></font></textarea></td></tr></table>

I want the background color inside the box appear black so that the text becomes clear as the text is white in color.

Righty then.

that Dolphon thing dont go for this site Gero. its a free community builder program with everything everyones mentioned they want so far included. Its free but it needs a host which normally isnt free. it was more of a move site suggestion like the many others that have came before it.

Code:
<div align="center">
    <a href="http://aof-association.forumotion.com"><img src="http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/78/aofbuttonnr8.png" /></a>
    <br /><br />
    <table width="100%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="1" border="0" class="forumline">
       <tr>
           <td class="catHead" height="25">
               <span class="genmed">
                   <center style="color: #000; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bold;">
                               Copy Code below for link to us-
                    </center>
                </span>
            </td>
        </tr>
           <td class="row1" align="center">
               </td><tr>
                   <td class="row1" align="center">
                       <center>
                            <textarea columns="25" rows="7" style="color: #FFFFFF; font-family: Verdana; font-weight: bold; font-size: 12px; background-color: #000000;" size="10" maxlength="30" onClick=select()><a href="http://aof-association.forumotion.com/"><img src="http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/78/aofbuttonnr8.png" /></a></textarea>
                        </center>
                    </td>
                </tr>

    </table></div>

Thats the corrected code and I've fixed a few little problems explained below:

- <br> should actually be a self closing tag which means that you don't add a </br> at the end of it. Self closing tags should look like <br /> in proper markup however, don't worry because usually the browser fingures out what you mean.

- The way I've layed out the code enables you to easily see all the openings and closings of the tags. You missed a few not too vital ones at the end which could have created problems in some browsers

- Some of the tags you where using (<font>, <b>) I have replaced with better standard CSS which we should really be using for everything now.

@techno_kid-It doesn't look right when i put it,u can check the Portal.

You can't see the "Copy the Code below text....",it should appear like this in this site-

http://www.voidserver.com/index.php

Scrolling down u will see the Link To Us Block in that site,its neat.Something like that.

Pls give an update on ur test forum when it is up.

i'd love to hear what you guys think about the theme http://aoftest.safefilestore.com/ (no www.).

How about getting a .co.cc domain name free and using it to cover up a free hosted site like aof.freehostia.com and instead you see aof.co.cc

Oh and ingnore the url and the fact that it's smf, im just playing and exploring here.

im glad u can put the AoF Test - Info Centre up becuase its extremely bulky and a pain in the ass. i would even go as far if possible to remove the log in option for geusts on it since their is already a registration/ login option above the forum itself.

Im not 100% sure. in one hand it is quite bulky. in the other its handy to keep track. i like the part that tells whos online, thats always handy aswell. is their a capability to have it closed up but there from when you enter the page?

what you think?

I think that the box is certainly getting in the way of the overall theme and it could really be taken off to make it look more pleasing, however as you explained, it is very handy.

Admins can see these features elsewhere and from the profile pages or peoples posts you can see whether they're online or not so arguably i would remove it

and slightly different theme now

Well im under the impression we are for making a menu bar from scratch & that unfortunately leaves us depending on the graphical team and they normally take their sweet ass time. The menu bar itself shapes the look of the page in my view.

Next thing i see when i look is the 3 things: No New Posts - New Posts in Board - New Posts in Child Board. examples option just above the stats. Is it just me or does it seem abit outta place?

Then the search bar at the top. is it ok were it is? i think its hard to get an idea of what goes were without the basic graphics that are going in place. We also have AoF test in 2 places. The banner would explain what it is & the one in the box aswell. we could remove the big white AoF Test text.

right i've finally pinpointed and removed the info center code:

Code:
// Here's where the "Info Center" starts...
   echo '<br />
   <div class="tborder" ', $context['browser']['needs_size_fix'] && !$context['browser']['is_ie6'] ? 'style="width: 100%;"' : '', '>

         <a href="#" onclick="shrinkHeaderIC(!current_header_ic); return false;"><img id="upshrink_ic" src="', $settings['images_url'], '/', empty($options['collapse_header_ic']) ? 'collapse.gif' : 'expand.gif', '" alt="*" title="', $txt['upshrink_description'], '" style="margin-right: 2ex;" align="right" /></a>
         ', $txt[685], '
      </div>
      <div id="upshrinkHeaderIC"', empty($options['collapse_header_ic']) ? '' : ' style="display: none;"', '>
