I would like to hear AoF member comments on the incoming Obama administration.
I by no means wish to stir up political tensions, nor do I want any heated arguments made. Smile
I am just interested in your thoughts.

Well i have been an Obama supporter throughout last year.

Tracked his campaign closely and i believe he is a good leader for US.

Like his style and it gives me a lot of inspiration.

Most importantly he has got substance behind the style-
Policies on closure of Guantanamo Bay,climate change policy,Iraq policy,Afghanistan policy, support for stem cell research, use of diplomacy(maybe changed tactics with Iran),economic policy.

Remains to be seen how exactly his S.Asian policy will turn out.

Overall far better than Bush and a welcome change.

I live in Northern Ireland and yet i am happy to see Obama got in. Bush is out and about time to...

Obama looks to be the next generation of proud and smart leaders that use their mouths rather than the large armies they have. Fully support his entry as President.

PostSubject: Re: Obama Inauguration   Wed Jan 21, 2009 12:11 pm

Guess am the only one with this thought... Obama worries me!!!! Great to see a black president but am nervous with his policys and i think America needs a strong agressive stance in the world but then again i likely play too many violent games which lead to ideas like that
>_<

Also i dont like the idea of stem cell research etc, tampering with natural genetics, embryos and cells etc is bad imo. Yes it may lead to a cure for cancer but in the end i think we can only go soo far until it becomes dangerous and morally wrong, death happens and it may be better if people accept it and know that it is certain to happen.

We all know our death will come, we do not know the hour.

(dam, am trying to remember a line from TES4 Oblivion which i found was quite a wise saying about the whole humans being mortal and doomed to death.)

also Bush was "ok"....... Obama will likely do better but i still do not think he is the best option for America. Mc Cane is annoying as he has that Sarah Palin w/e you call her along with him and she really gets me annoyed for some reason Evil or Very Mad:

*EDIT*

Noticed the latest post there, me dont like Liberals they are too.... Liberal

Neutral

@sanctus, Obama is NOT a Muslim. He is a christian which is what sparked the controversy over what his CHRISTIAN pastor said early in the campaign.
@Titan, I have to disagree with you on the stem cell research.

Not to make anyone mad here, these are just my opinions. I myself am a moderate (about equal liberal/conservative) but Obama was by far the best choice (in my opinion)

got to admit with Char he is the best choice of the candidates. 1 hell of a speaker & wether he is black or not he shows great promise in the future in my opinion.

the fact he is black in my veiw just boosts the fact he is something new and that America is going down new roads.

on a side note i dont think America needs a strong military policy with America these days. We need a strong military but hopefully for show.

America has learnt through the terms of 5 Presidents that Violence is not always with them, through the terms of Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon & Ford through the Vietnam war.

Military power is good but in the situation the world enters every day the first point of attack should be through the foreign office's of the nations involved. America does not need a tight and forceful leader and what it needs is someone thats gonna listen before he starts pulling the trigger and if Obama is more of a talking guy maybe something food is coming round the corner.

Their will always be groups that are impossible to talk to and threats that talking should be avoid but those situations are unbeleiveably close to the line of ones that can be negotiated and most leaders these days and in the past accidently miss the line and add some problems to the send the militay pile.

I agree that we need a strong military but we also need to use diplomacy. At this point, after the national debt and complete lack of public relations and diplomacy that Mr. George W. Bush used over his previous term, nearly every country in the world hates the U.S.A. I'm not saying that Bush was nessissairly wrong because he did make the tough choices that noone else would make but he did make everyone in the world hate America.

As for your point about gay marrige; Gay people do not have a choice about being gay. Do you honestly think that they want to be that way. I would bet anything that if a gay person had the option to simply not be gay, they would take it in a heart beat. It is just something that people are born with, almost like a disibility. By your logic, everyone who is not born normally (without any abnormalalities) are committing a sin. I am not trying to spark an angry argument, these ar just my firm beliefs.

As for you point about gun contron; Obama has absolutely no intention of making it so average people cant buy guns. His policys that he would like to set in would make it much harder for criminals (IE sex offenders and felons) to acquire guns. Also, it would make it so that normal (non-military) people could not own automatic machine guns or any other, unnessissary, firearms. People are still free to buy hunting rifles and shot-guns and pistols just like normal.

As for abortion, I do not want to get into this argument here because it is way to controversial to be discussed here and could spark a very heated argument.

Again, I do not want to upset anyone or make anyone mad at me or hate me, most of this is just my opinion with a lot of fact mixed in.

Thanks,
-Char561

And I apologise for my lenghthy response but I definatly know my stuff when it comes to the politics and policys proposed and set forth by both the democrats and the republicans and am very knowledgeable about BOTH McCain and Obama and the overall parties of Democrat and Republican.

I was just trying to get the facts out there and I am sorry if you disagree with my opinion portions of the above statement.

Well on the subject of Gay people, i wouldn't totally agree that it is something they are born with and that they do have a choice in the matter. Personally though i would wish that all gay people are able to go with what they feel and aren't pressured into being straight (though they most likely are because of of gay being a minority sexuality) Am not very religious but from what i know of the Bible it would say that being gay is a sin. Now without going into too much detail about my personal views about what the Bible says and what others think it means i will just give my quick view. If people want to be gay that is ok with me, i would rather not have to see men with other men but am not going to call them sinners for it. Let God judge them i would think.

About the USA military stance. Yes America needs a powerful army but they also need good speakers who are able to use the fact they have a strong military to try and avoid a war without fighting etc. Some people will only listen to the people who have streangth as well as minds, American leaders have imo lacked in the mind dept during history. Vietnam anyone?

About gun control: I think that the people should be allowed to buy weapons such as handguns, rifles and shotguns. But this needs to be severly restricted to anyone with a criminal record, also Assualt rifles and other heavy weapons should not be for sale.

This is likely a stupid question, but was it actually possible that you were able to buy like an AK-47 at a supermarket?

Also i agree with Char, am not going go into the idea of abortion etc, i would rather not go into that.

I agree fully with Char. My father is a Psychology Proffessor at Marshall University, and He has done numerous research projects about homosexual orientation. He and I both believe it is not a choice, and I see no reason anyone would choose to be a "looked down upon" minority.
On the subject of stem cell research, I am all for it. They can now use umbilical cord cells for stem purposes, so it is fact not "killing babies".
But I am a supporter of President Obama, and I wish him the best. I find it most healthy to not consider myself a Democrat or Republican, it saves alot of breath and time. We do not need an iron fist ruler now, we need a good one. If you would care to look back at the Roman Republic, it's decline came along with the same problems we face today. But, the effects can be reversed, as in Roman times they had the same type of leader for a century, and we can all say Obama is not like the previous few.
Also, I am not neccesarily for all of the "screaming, rabid" Obama fans that seem to think he is a glamorous celebrity and that we should all worship him. He is but a man, but a good on at that. Very Happy

Abortion is a personal opinion and if Obama took up agaisnt it half the nation would be unhappy so the fact is no politician will go against it. In northern Ireland it is not allowed becuase it would cause trouble with what peace we finally get but they are available 7 hours drive (MAX if u going 10 MPH) in England. I have to cover the topic in my RE GCSE and unfortunately its one of those things where although im brought up under Christian beleifs you have to respect other peoples veiws. I dont think its right to abort yet i dont think its right that a child is put in adoption centres or in a family that has no desire for the child.

Sorry to take that into breif detail and although people try to shift it out of the light its 1 of those topics that can yes start arguements but have strong points on both sides leaving the respect of the parents decision.

As for Firearms, Their shouldnt be a need for them in the first place. They only cause trouble and for him to say hes going to try and limit their access i think its a bold and very impossible thing to keep. Their will always be ways in a country the size of America and thats the unfortunate situation. Its a pity firearms exist at all in this world, they do no good except to some greedy idiots bank balance.

Finally i agree with Titan about the minds of the presidents in the past. America has lost Vietnam and had to leave it through the method of 'Vietnamisation' in which i also note as they are doing now in the wars taking place in IRAQ. They are training the local military and obama will continue to do so until probley about 2 years and then they will be out as fast as they went in. Obama didnt put those soldiers in so it does not look bad that he brings them out, he looks like a hero if he does becuase although its a war on terrorism lets face it when Bush was in the war was questioned more and more as public opinion changed to what the hell are we doing in here? Obama will bring the soldiers out as they did in Vietnam whilst training the local forces to fend for themselves.

sorry to get into this but i like my polotics xD
